Senior Brooke Kohler will continue her softball career next year at Susquehanna University.
In 11 games this season, Brooke is batting 9-for-35 with 3 RBIs and has scored 10 runs. Kohler is 1-0 on the mound in eight appearances and five saves. She has pitched 19 and 1/3 innings and out of the 71 batters she has faced, she struck out 30 of them while only allowing eight hits and three runs.
"I'm pretty excited, and I can't wait to see what college softball is all about," Kohler said. "I'm hoping that I can get some playing time and prove myself to the team."
Fellow Hornet softball alum Kate Reese, who helps coach the Punishers travel softball team in the summer that Kohler and the rest of the Hornets play for, played at Susquehanna from 2009-12 and suggested they look into Brooke.
"When I spoke with Coach Kroupa she said they already knew about me and invited me to clinics and that they would love to have me on the team."
Kohler chose Susquehanna over Elmira College after making a campus visit just a few short weeks ago.
"Elmira saw me play at a tournament at Horseheads (NY) so I was kinda up in the air between the two but I felt more at home at Susquehanna."
"Brooke is a four-year starter on this team and has put in a lot of hard work during that time," said head coach Greg Carr. "She has earned every single piece of recognition she has received. I'm very happy that Brooke will continue her softball career. You very seldom get the chance to play at the next level and I know that she will be a vaulable asset to the team."
Both of Coach Carr's seniors will be playing softball next spring as Maggie Smith signed with Millersville University back in November of 2013.
WellsboroAthletics.com would like to congratulate Brooke on her signing, and wish her the best of luck in her college career.
