The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team ran their win streak to 6 games with a 12-2 victory over Troy in six innings on Wednesday, May 4.
Wellsboro scored first as senior Sarah Ingerick drove home fellow senior Jenny Young for 1 of her 3 RBI's on the day. Troy got a run back in the bottom of the first to tie it at 1-1, but Wellsboro would regain the lead for good in the second as freshman Emma Poirier scored on a Troy error to make it 2-1, Wellsboro.
The Lady Hornets added 3 runs in the third as Ingerick drove in her second run of the afternoon on a ground out and sophomore Brianne Keane hit an RBI single to make it 5-2 Hornets. Wellsboro added 3 more in the fourth as Young, Ingerick, and senior Darci Warriner all crossed home plate.
Three more runs in the fifth inning push the game to 11-2 in favor of the Lady Hornets before they closed the game out with another run in the sixth inning to enact the 10-run rule.
Senior Alexa Singer, Young, and Warriner all 2-for-4 at the plate. Keane and sophomores Sydney Tremper, Kailee Clymer, and Alyssa Yungwirth added hits on the day. Young and Warriner both have 17 hits to lead the team, Ingerick leads the team with 19 RBI's, and Young leads the way with 16 runs scored.
Singer picked up her 32nd career win (20 games above .500) on the afternoon in 3 innings. Singer allowed 2 runs (1 earned), 1 hit (home run), walked two, and struck out two. Singer has now recorded 194 career strikeouts. Yungwirth came on for the save to pitch the final 3 innings, striking out 3 and walking 2.
The win improves the Lady Hornets' record to 11-2. The team will be back in action on Saturday afternoon against North Penn-Liberty.
