Lady Hornets Suffer 24-7 Loss To Troy.

A week after winning their second game of the season, the Wellsboro Varsity Softball team suffered a 24-7 loss in 6 innings to Troy on Tuesday, May 2.
Troy scored quickly in the top of the 1st but Wellsboro answered back in bottom half of the inning to tie the game. With two outs sophomore Lexi Urena was hit by a pitch, advanced to 2nd on a pass ball, stole 3rd, then later scored, tying the game at 1-all. Troy then went on the offensive, scoring 4 times in the 2nd, once in the 3rd, then adding 7 in the 4th.
Wellsboro scored a pair of runs in the 3rd, one by freshman Tegan Del Rio and one by senior Maddi Bordas, then added another run in the 4th by junior Abby Owlett, but still trailed 13-4 after 4 innings.
Troy added a solo run in the 5th, then added 10 more the following inning.
Urena scored her second run of the afternoon in the 5th, then hit a 3-run home run, her 4th of the year, in the 6th, scoring herself, Bordas, and senior Jordyn Abernathy.
Urena was 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Wellsboro while Bordas, Abernathy, and Owlett all going 2-for-4. Seniors Rylie Boyce and Molly Ingerick were both 1-for-2.
Urena threw all six inning, allowing 24 runs (14 earned) on 17 hits with 5 walks and 8 strikeouts.
The loss drops Wellsboro to 2-9 (2-8 NTL Large School Division). The team hosts rival North Penn-Liberty on Friday, May 5.
