The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team concluded their season with a doubleheader loss to Sayre during Senior Night on Thursday, May 16.
Sayre took game one 11-7 then won 15-2 in 5 innings.
In the first game Sayre held Wellsboro scoreless through the first 5 innings while scoring all 11 of their runs - 2 in the 1st, 1 in the 4th, and 8 in the 5th - before Wellsboro began their rally attempt in the bottom half of the inning.
With two outs sophomore Kieleigh Hoover drew a walk then senior Abby Owlett followed with a base hit before junior Paige Logsdon hit a deep shot over the left field fence to bring all three home. Wellsboro added 3 more runs in the 6th as junior Madelynn Losinger and freshmen Bailee Confer and Mazie Johnson all scored, cutting the lead down to 11-6. Wellsboro's final run came in the 7th as senior Caralyn Warner led off with a base knock then later scored.
Owlet and Warner were both 2-for-3 at the plate while sophomore LeAnna Fuentes and Confer were 1-for-3 and Logsdon was 1-for-4.
Logsdon threw a complete game, allowing 11 runs on 7 hits with 11 walks and 4 strikeouts.
In the second game the Lady Redskins scored once in the 1st, 8 times in the 2nd, twice in the 3rd and 4 times in the 5th.
Wellsboro scored once in the 4th by Losinger and once in the 5th on another Logsdon home run. Logsdon's home run was the Lady Hornets' only hit in the game.
Johnson threw all 5 innings, allowing 15 runs on 7 hits with 12 walks and 3 strikeouts.
Wellsboro finishes the season 4-16 overall and 1-14 in the NTL Large School Division.
