WAVERLY, N.Y. - Towanda scored in almost every inning as they won their softball opener 10-4 over Waverly Thursday.
The Knights scored one run in the second, third and fifth innings; two runs in the fourth and seventh and three in the sixth to pick up the win. Waverly had two runs in the fourth and seventh.
Alaina Wickwire went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run, double and an RBI with a run scored while Koryn Wickwire was also 3-for-4 with a triple and 3-RBI.
Emily Gorman was 2-fo-3 with 3-RBI in the game while Michelle Aronson had a double with one RBI and two runs scored. Dallas Mosier, Raven Vargeson, Kylie Cazassa and Mackenzie Roof also had hits. Roof added an RBI while Vargeson scored twice.
In the circle Alaina Wickwire got the win, striking out three while walking two and allowing one earned run.
Kiana Manuel and Carmella Ruth had two hits each for Waverly while Sabrina Bowman, Cassidy Farr, Sam Mennig and Stephanie Bullis also had hits. Bowman, Farr and Mennig scored runs.
Bellis took the loss, striking out three while allowing 12 hits and nine earned runs.
Towanda will host Canton Monday while Waverly welcomes Dryden Tuesday.
LERAYSVILLE - Haylie Phillips threw a one hit shut-out as the Panthers picked up their first NTL East victory in softball action Thursday. Phillips went three innings, striking out five while allowing one walk.
Calla Martin led Northeast, going 3-for-3 with four runs, two home runs and seven RBI while Nikki Emick went 2-for-3 with three RBI and Kelsey Goodwin was also 2-for-3 with a home run, double, two runs and four RBI. Phillips also had two hits, one a double, with two RBI.
McKaylah Holbert, Monica Brown, Kelsey Carlsen, Bridget Haverly, Chelsie Souto, Courtney Coleman and Maddy Johnson also had hits in the game.
Kaitlyn Tappan had the lone Redskin hit while Kristyn Tappan took the loss.
The two teams will meet again on Monday in Sayre with a 4:30 p.m. start.
The Warriors held off a late Wildcats rally to pick up an NTL East softball win Thursday.
Canton jumped out early, scoring six runs after two innings. They would take an 8-1 into the fifth when Athens scored two runs, followed by three more in the sixth but couldn't get any closer.
Chelsea Heatly went 2-4 for the Warriors with a home run and triple while Courtney McFall was 2-for-3 with two doubles. Morgan Palmer added at triple with two runs scored while Kellsy Ross and Macy McMurray had one double each. Kaylin Baker added a hit and run.
Heatley scored the win with five strike-outs.
Alexa Daddona had the big bat for Athens, going 3-for-4 with a run scored while Jensen Dunkling was 2-for-4 with a triple and double. Searah Kennedy was also 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Mackenzie Hafer, Christin Dunkling and Abbie Beck had one hit each with Dunkling and Beck's doubles.
Serfass started and takes the loss while Christin Dunkling came on in relief.
Late Wednesday
The Green Hornets opened their season with a win.
Jordan Butters and Maggie Smith both went 2-for-4, with Smith knocking in two runs. Lauren Bleggi, Breyann Campbell, Baylea Lehman and Hannah Zuchowski also had hits.
Smith took the win, striking out six while allowing two walks, five hits and three runs in seven innings of work.
Kadie Vanorsdale went 2-for-3 with a double for CV while Courtney Shauer and Sterlin Young also had hits.
Shanelle Ianson took the loss, striking out three while walking four.
