2012 Troy vs. Mifflinburg SoftballdWILLIAMSPORT - The Troy Trojans had their chances in Wednesday's District 4, Class AA playoff game.

Three times, they had runners reach second base and five times, they had runners on base in the game against Mifflinburg, but in the end they just couldn't manufacture any runs against pitcher Ally Lloyd as they fell 6-0.

"We had a good year, no question about it," Troy coach Brian Canfield said. "Today we didn't get the timely hits when we had to and they got the timely hits late in the ball game.

"We ran out there and stole every base we could, we just didn't get the timely hits."

And while Troy couldn't get the big hits they needed with runners on base, Lloyd limited the number of chances the Trojans got, striking out 12 in the game.

In the first inning, Troy got a two-out walk from Kayla Stephani, but she was stranded.

In the second inning, Brooke Mattocks had a two-out single and she stole second, before being stranded.

Katie Jackson had a one-out single in the third and stole second and third before being left there.

In the bottom of the fourth, Mifflinburg got on the board as Kelcie Crabb walked and Lloyd followed with a triple, before Jess Brobst hit a double to score Lloyd.

"Oeverall, I thought Hannah (Jackson) pitched well," Canfield said. "They got a couple of hits late, but I thought she pitched a good game."

In the fifth inning, Brooke Mattocks had a double, but was left stranded and in the seventh Tiffani Mattocks singled, but was doubled up to end the game.

For Canfield, it's tough to say goodbye to his senior class.

"This has been a big group of seniors," he said. "Here in the last two years they have been to the district finals and semis and they got to states. I hoped we would get better as the year went on and we did."

Brooke Mattocks had two hits in the game and Tiffani Mattocks had a hit, while Katie Jackson added a hit.

Hannah Jackson struck out five for the Trojans in the loss.

Lloyd allowed the four hits and one walk, striking out 12 and she paced the offense with her triple and two runs scored, while Sara Stauffer had a three-run inside the park home run in the sixth inning.
