2012 Troy vs. Danville SoftballThe Troy softball team opened the season with a 2-1 victory at Danville on Monday.

Troy scored in the second and fourth innings to build a 2-0 lead, before Danville cut the deficit to one in the bottom of the fourth. However, the Trojans would let them get no closer.

Hannah Jackson went the distance on the mound, striking out eight, walking one and allowing three hits and one run, not earned.

Kayla Stephani, Katie Jackson, Tiffani Mattocks and Kara Schucker had hits for Troy in the game. Schucker and Mattocks each had doubles, with Schucker driving in a run and Mattocks scoring both runs.

Troy hosts Williamson on Wednesday.

Tioga 10, Spencer Van-Etten 4

VAN-ETTEN, N.Y. - The Tioga Tigers opened the season with the victory, getting a three hit game from Brittany Vergason in the win.

Vergason was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run a run scored and four RBI. Raven Worthing, Deanna Hutchison and Bry Godfrey each had two hits in the win.

Godfrey stole home and scored that run and Worthing had two RBI.

Dani Barto had a hit, three runs scored and three steals, Megan Piper scored a run, Sam Pond had a hit, and Sierra Beebe had a hit and scored two runs.

Sam Wood went all seven innings on the mound, striking out 11, walking none and allowing eight hits and four runs, two earned.

Hannah Lawrence struck out seven for Spencer, allowing 12 hits and 10 runs, nine earned, with seven walks.

Crissi Blaasch had a home run for Spencer and Courtney Schutt had two hits, with a double, while Lisa Nelson was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and a run scored.

Tioga hosts Candor on Wednesday.

Edison 16, Waverly 0

WAVERLY, N.Y. - The Wolverines were held to two hits in the loss on Monday.

Sabrina Bowman and Cassidy Farr each had singles for Waverly in the game.

Edison was led by Katelyn Warren, who was 5-for-5 with a double, a home run, five runs scored and six RBI.

Sam Mennig started on the mound for Waverly and Chloe Depew finished the game for Waverly. Mennig went four, striking out three and DePew went three with no strikeouts.

Notre Dame 17, Newfield 0

Athens' Olivia May threw a no-hitter, striking out 12 and walking two for Notre Dame.

At the plate May was 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored, with a double, Another Athens resident, Becca Saggiomo, had a double and scored two runs, with an RBI.

Sydney Dimon led Notre Dame at the plat with four hits, three RBI, three doubles and three runs scored and Alivia Clark had three hits, a triple, a home run, three RBI and three runs scored.

May, Clark and Dimon, who hit 1-2-3 in the lineup, were a combined 10-for-11 with nine RBI, 10 runs scored, four doubles, a triple and a home run.

Emily Elpkowski had a double, a run scored and three RBI and Detta Gublo had a double, an RBI and a run scored, while Sam Erbach had two hits and scored a run. Abby Carr had a hit, Mackenzie Maloney had a hit and scored two runs and Emily Demuth had a hit and an RBI.

CV 12, Williamson 10

The Indians got two hits each from Jessi Prutsman and Shanelle Ianson with Prutsman getting two triples and three RBI.

Serlynne Young worked four innings on the mound, striking out five, walking four and allowing four hits and Ianson got the save, striking out two, walking three and allowing four hits.
