CANTON - The Troy Trojans overcame a pair of Morgan Palmer home runs and a three-run second inning by Canton to come away with a 6-5 victory on Tuesday afternoon.
On a cold, windy afternoon, the Trojans jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead as Katie Jackson and Tiffani Mattocks each scored first-inning runs.
However, pitcher Hannah Jackson struggled with her control in the second inning and five walks, along with one hit, led to Courtney Coyle, Emily Ambruch and Makenzy Route scoring runs for the Warriors to put Canton on top 3-2.
Troy tied the game in the third inning as Mattocks scored her second run of the game.
The Trojans went on top in the fifth inning as Kayla Stephani scored, but a solo home run by Palmer in the bottom of the half of the inning tied the game.
The Trojans retook the lead in the top of the sixth as Kelly Bridgham and Brooke Mattocks scored runs.
Palmer hit another solo home run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the deficit to one and Kellsy Ross followed with a walk, but Hannah Jackson got a strikeout to end the game.
For Troy, Katie Jackson had two hits and scored a run and Kelsey Bristol added a hit.
Stephani had two hits, two RBI and a run scored, Tiffani Mattocks had two hits, a double, two runs scored and two RBI and Cecilia Morse had two hits in the game.
Faith Ceely finished with three hits and Bridgham, Taylor Johnston and Brooke Mattocks all had hits, with Brooke Mattocks and Bridgham scoring runs.
Hannah Jackson struck out eight, walked seven, hit one batter and alllowed three hits in the game.
Palmer had two of Canton's three hits, both the solo home runs, and Ross had a hit.
Bridget Tracy scored a run and had an RBI and Coyle, Ambruch and Route all scored runs in the game, along with Palmer scoring the two runs.
Chelsey Heatley struck out five, walked three and allowed 16 hits in the game.
