ATHENS - The Wildcats scored 11 unanswered runs to beat Blue Ridge 11-3 in softball action Tuesday.
Miranda Peterson went 3-for-4 at the plate for Athens while Chrstin Dunkling was 2-for-3 with a home-run and two runs scored.
Mackenzie Hafer, Rica Dimon, Katelyn Serfass, Searah Kennedy and Morgan Westbrook also had hits in the win.
Jensen Dunkling scored three times, Hafer and Christin Dunkling crossed home twice while Sarah Munn, Peterson, Dimon and Westbrook also scored.
Serfass earned the win, striking out 11 while allowing two walks, six hits and three earned runs.
Shana Yechymick went 2-for-3 for Blue Ridge while Jenna Rupakus had a 2-run double in the first.
Kristine Carlson scored the loss.
TIOGA CENTER, N.Y. - Down to their last pitch Tioga was able to pull out an extra innings win in IAC softball action Thursday.
Down by one in the bottom of the ninth Sierra Beebe had an 0-2 count with two outs. She would eventually draw a walk then reach second on a pass ball.
Alexis VanDruff then drove her in with a single to center, followed by VanDruff reaching second on the throw home.
Danielle Barto ended the game with a first pitch single to center.
Tioga coach Jim Wood believes his team's experience came through for them.
"This group I've got this year, 8-of-9 are back from last year's team," he remarked. "The experience showed. At no time did they ever put their heads down or did they think they were going to lose. Even 0-2, they're on the fence, loud and into it. They were mentally very, very tough."
"I definitely see the maturity from last year to this year," he added.
This was Tioga's fourth day outside after three inconsistent days of practice.
"We were inconsistent but had flashes of really good play," Wood remarked.
He also liked getting a win over one of the better IAC programs in Newark Valley.
Bre Godfrey went 3-for-4 for Tioga with a run and 2-RBI while Britt Verguson, Alexis VanDruff and Danielle Barto had two hits each. They also one double a piece.
Donnette Hutchison added a hit.
Barto had 2-RBI while VanDruff, Verguson and Hutchison also knocked in runs.
VanDruff scored three times, Barto twice with Godfrey and Beebe also scoring.
Sam Wood earned the win, striking out eight with her only walk intentional. She allowed four earned runs on 10 hits.
Kirsten Chase was 4-for-5 for the Cardinals while Sierra Davison had a 2-run home run.
Chase scored the loss with nine strikeouts, three walks, 10 hits and five earned runs.
Tioga hosts Newfield next Tuesday.
The Warriors opened their season with a win Thursday.
Chelsey Heatley led the way, tossing a 4-hitter with just one earned run while hitting a double and home run with 2-RBI and two stolen bases.
Kayla Ward added a triple and run scored while Emily Ambruch had a double with an RBI. Kellsy Ross had a hit, Kelsey Griffin scored a run and Tiffany Bassett added two stolen bases.
Hoby Heintzelman had a home run for the Raiders while Emily Shndyer earned the loss with four walks and three strikeouts.
Canton will travel to Sayre.
The Rams were one-hit as they lost their season opener Thursday.
Emily Faulkner took the loss for Wyalusing Alexis Bower earned the win for the Millionaires.
Bower was also 2-for-4 with a 3-run home run as well.
