NEB tops Wyalusing, Athens beats Troy.

2013 Wellsboro vs. Canton SoftballOn senior day for Northeast Bradford it was their lone senior coming to the rescue.

Tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh MaKaylah Holbert led off with a triple. After an out was made Monica Brown brought in Holbert for the winning run as the Panthers edged Wyalusing 4-3 in NTL East softball action Monday.

"It felt really good," Northeast coach Gary Hennip said. "It's especially nice for MaKaylah. It was senior night and she is the only senior on the team and she scored the winning run. It was great for her and great for the team."

The Rams jumped out early, scoring three runs in the first inning to go up 3-0.

Northeast fought back with two in the third and one in the fourth to tie it up before Holbert's heroics in the seventh.

Holbert finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs while Calla Johnson was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Julia Williams and Angelia Laudermilch also had hits.

Brown had 2-RBI in the game while Maddy Johnson and Bridget Haverly each scored.

Chelsie Souto earned the win, striking out eight while allowing one walk.

"Chelsie Souto pitched a whale of a game after the first inning," Hennip said. "After the first inning she shut them down. She never lost confidence."

Kasey DeVoir went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored to lead Wyalusing while Ally DeVoir, Arielle Kneller, Emily Faulkner, Crystal Shirk and Maddy Eberlin also had hits with Shirk's a double.

Faulkner had 2-RBI while Kenller also knocked in a run. Ally DeVoir and Kneller also scored.

Faulkner earns the loss, striking out two with four walks.

Even with the loss Wyalusing remains even with Troy in the standings as the Trojans lost to Athens 12-1 on Monday.

Northeast will host Montgomery Saturday.

Athens 12, Troy 1

The Wildcats broke open a close game in the fifth inning with seven runs as they picked up an NTL East softball win Monday.

It was 2-0 at that point in favor of Athens before they made it 9-0. Troy scored once in the bottom half of the inning but Athens tacked on three more in the seventh to secure the win.

Mackenzie Hafter, Jensen Dunkling, Kassandra Winters and Mackenzie Warner had two hits each. Both of Hafer's hits were doubles while Dunkling also had a double.

Miranda Peterson had a triple, Searah Kennedy had a double while Katelyn Serfass also had a hit.

Serfass earned the win in the circle, striking out five while allowing six hits and two walks.

Faith Ceely had two hits for Troy while Kelsey Bristol, Brooke Mattocks, Kara Schucker and Bethany Manley also had hits.

Schucker started and earned the loss, going 4 1/3-innings with three strikeouts while allowing nine runs and nine hits. Jerilyn Ross finished out, striking out two while allowing two hits, one walk and three runs.

Troy is at Wellsboro Wednesday with a 4:30 p.m. start.

Wellsboro 8, Canton 2

CANTON - The Green Hornets ended NTL West play with a win Monday.

Two different players homered as they pounded out 12 hits on the afternoon.

Maggie Smith went 3-for-4 with a 2-run home run, two runs scored and 2-RBI while Jordan Butters went 3-for-4 with a double. Sarah Ingerick had a solo home run as well.

Brooke Kohler (2-for-5) and Paige Carr (2-for-4) also had multiple hits in the game. Kohler and Carr both scored twice as Carr added an RBI.

Peyton Wilson added a hit with an RBI. Baylea Lehman knocked in a run as well.

Kohler earned the win striking out 16 while allowing five hits and one walk.

Kellsy Ross went 2-for-3 to lead Canton while Maggy Machmer added a solo home run. Kayla Ward and Emily Ambruch both had doubles with Ward scoring the other run.

Ross earns the loss, striking out nine and issuing no walks.

Towanda 7, Sayre 2

The Black Knights picked up an NTL East win Monday.

Mackenzie Roof, Sarah Dawsey, Laci Manning and Alysha Grimes all went 2-for-4 for the Knights. Roof scored twice, Grimes scored once while Manning and Grimes also had doubles.

Alaina Wickwire had a triple with two runs scored while Koryn Wickwire also had a hit. Sam Schoonover crossed home twice as well.

Alaina Wickwire earned the win, striking out five with one walk.

Maria Servedio led Sayre, going 2-for-3 with a triple, run scored and an RBI while Shelby Coolbaugh had a triple and Kaitlyn Tappan also had a hit. Kristyn Tappan scored a run, too.

Kristyn Tappan earned the loss, striking out five and walking none.

Tioga 5, Groton 1

In a tune-up for sectional playoffs the Tigers broke open a 1-1 tie with four runs in the seventh inning to secure the win.

Sam Wood (2-for-3), Dani Barto (2-for-3), Alexis VanDruff (2-for-4) and Sam Pond (2-for-3) all had multiple hits in the game. Wood added a run and an RBI, Barto scored while VanDruff crossed home and knocked a run in.

Britt Vergason went 1-for-3 with 2-RBI and a run scored while Donnette Hutchison also scored a run.

Wood earned the win, striking out 13 while allowing no walks, one unearned run and three hits.

Cowanesque Valley 6, Liberty 4

A 3-run home run in the fifth inning by CV's Whitney Earle was the difference in this NTL West action.

Earle went 2-for-3 on the day with 3-RBI while Jessi Prutsman was 3-for-4 with a 2-run home run. Courtney Schauer had a double while Shanelle Ianson and Julie Brubaker had singles.

Ianson earned the win with seven strikeouts, two walks, seven hits and four runs.

Rachel Strange had an RBI double for Liberty while Madison York scored a run.
