Northeast Bradford won the Central Columbia softball tournament title Saturday.
The Panthers defeated Minersville 4-3 in the first game then beat the hosts 6-1 in the title game.
"We played very well today," Northeast coach Gary Hennip said. "I didn't know quite what to expect, it's a really good tournament."
Down 3-0 in the bottom of the seventh the Panthers scored four runs to pull out the win over the Miners.
Maddy Johnson, MaKaylah Holbert, Calla Johnson, Monica Brown, Shelby Parks and Angelia Laudermilch all had hits for Northeast. Holbert, Calla Johnson, Parks and Mackenzie Moore scored.
Laudermilch knocked in two runs with Brown and Chelsie Souto also earning one RBI each.
Souto struck out 10 while allowing no walks and five hits in the game.
In the title game Northeast jumped out early with two runs each in the first two innings. Central scored once in the top of the sixth but Northeast came back with two more in the bottom half of the inning to secure the win.
Holbert went 3-for-3 with a double, run scored and an RBI while Maddy Johnson had a triple, 2-RBI and a run scored. Calla Johnson had a double with 2-RBI.
Brown, Bridget Haverly, Laudermilch and Courtney Coleman also had hits. Danielle Moore scored twice while Park and Coleman also scored.
Brown added an RBI.
Souto got the win again, striking out six while allowing a walk.
Souto was named tournament MVP with Maddy Johnson, Calla Johnson and Holbert being named to the All-Tournament team.
Hennip hopes this is just the start of things to come.
"I think we seem to be getting better as we play," he said. "There are a lot of new players on the team. They're jelling, playing well together and were starting to hit the ball much better."
Northeast will host Williamson Monday.
The Lady Knights went 1-2 at the Williamsport Tournament Saturday.
On Friday night they lost to Delaware Valley 4-3 in 11 innings.
"That was a heartbreaker for us," Towanda coach Bryon Fuller said.
Sam Schoonover went 3-for-4 with 2-RBI and a run scored to lead Towanda while Koryn Wickwire, Mackenzie Roof, Emily Gorman, Alysha Grimes and Laci Manning also had hits.
Jade Parson scored the other two runs.
Alaina Wickwire scores the loss, striking out eight while allowing three walks, eight hits and two earned runs.
In their Saturday morning game Towanda lost to Conwell-Egan 29-3 in five innings.
Alaina Wickwire had a home run with 3-RBI while Koryn Wickwire, Mackenzie Roof, Schoonover, Manning and Sarah Dawsey also had hits. Schoonover's was a double.
Roof and Gorman scored.
Grimes, Tara Welliver, Parsons, Casey Holly and Koryn Wickwire spent time in the circle, striking out one while allowing 12 walks and 22 hits.
They won their final game 5-1 over Archbishop Wood.
Gorman (3-for-4), Schoonover (3-for-4), Alaina Wickwire (2-for-4) and Manning (2-for-4) all had multiple hits in the game. Schoonover scored with 2-RBI, Alaina had an RBI and a run scored while Gorman also had an RBI.
Koryn Wickwire, Roof, Grimes and Kylie Cazassa also had hits with Roof, Sam Peachey and Cazassa scoring.
Alaina picked up the win, striking out eight while allowing two hits and one unearned run.
Despite the up and down weekend Fuller felt his team saw some good competition.
"The girls kept their heads up and won the final one," he said. "It was a good weekend for us with good quality teams."
Towanda hosts Canton Monday.
SAYRE - The Redskins pounded out eight hits as they picked up a non-league softball win Saturday.
Kaitlyn Tappan was 2-for-3 with three runs scored while Kristyn Tappan had a hit, 4-RBI and two runs scored.
Kelly Villanti added a hit, two runs and an RBI while Shelby Coolbaugh was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Rachel Hurley and Maria Servedio also had hits with Servedio adding an RBI. Kelsey Young also scored a run. Kaitlyn Tappan struck out three in the win.
Brianna Baumunk and Alexis Kiess had hits for Sullivan while Emily McMahon scored the run.
Alyssa Blasi earns the loss, striking out one.
Notre Dame won the Mudville Tournament on Saturday.
They beat General Brown 7-2 and Watertown 13-0.
Olivia May was named the MVP, winning both games in the circle while hitting a 3-run home run against General Brown.
Late Friday
The Trojans pounded out 10 hits as they picked up an NTL cross over softball win Saturday.
Kelsey Bristol, Taylor Johnson and Brooke Losey-Root had two hits each while Faith Ceely, Kayla Stephani, Bethany Manley and Kelly Bridgham had one hit a piece.
Kara Schucker scores the win, going six innings to strike out eight while allowing one walk. Manley went one inning, allowing four hits, four walks and seven runs.
Christina Buchanan had two hits for Liberty while Rachel Strange and Katie Carrigan also had hits.
Carrigan scores the loss, striking out two while allowing five walks.
