Towanda edges Troy in extra innings.

WYSOX - Towanda's Makenzie Roof reached between the legs of Troy's Kelly Bridgham to score the winning run in the Black Knights 3-2 win in eight innings Monday.

Troy took a 1-0 lead as Taylor Murray scored off a Tiffani Mattocks double in the second inning. Sarah Hunsicker made it 2-0 in the top of the third.

Towanda got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third as Koryn Wickwire scored off an Alysha Grimes single. In the next inning Alaina Wickwire tied it up with a home run.

It stayed tied until the eighth inning when Grimes knocked in Roof for the win. Roof had reached on a fielder's choice.

"I knew our hitting would be a little sluggish because we haven't seen any pitching," Towanda coach Bryon Fuller said. "But the girls came through."

Wickwire went 4-for-5 to lead the Knights while Grimes, Emily Gorman, Wickwire, Laci Manning and Roof had the other hits. Grimes had 2-RBI on the day while Wickwire added one.

Wickwire got the win, going the distance to strike out three while allowing three hits, and one earned run.

"Alaina pitched a great game," Fuller said.

Fuller was also pleased with with his team's defense, particularly the middle infield of Laci Manning and Koryn Wickwire.

"All the girls played exceptionally well," he said. "They came through when they needed to on defense. A big win for us, anytime you play a Troy softball team you better be ready to play."

Murray, Mattocks and Sarah Hunsicker had the three Troy hits.

Kara Shucker went the first five innings for the Trojans, striking out two while allowing six hits, two walks and two earned runs. Bethany Manley went the final three innings for the loss. She struck out two and allowed three hits and two walks.

Towanda is at Athens Wednesday.

Athens 3, Wyalusing 1

Two runs in the fourth by the Wildcats proved to be the difference Monday.

Jensen Dunkling (2-for-3) and Christin Dunkling (2-for-4) had multiple hits for Athens and also scored. Mackenzie Hafer and Miranda Peterson had the other hits with Hafer also scoring a run.

Katelyn Serfass got the win, striking out eight while allowing six hits and one run.

Kasey DeVoir (3-for-3) and Arielle Kneller (2-for-3) had multiple hits for the Rams with Kneller scoring their lone run. Emily Faulkner had the other hit.

Faulkner allowed six hits, one walk and struck out seven.

Wyalusing will take on Sayre on Wednesday.

Waverly 15, Watkins Glen 3

WAVERLY, N.Y. - The Wolverines had home runs by Sam Mennig and Stephanie Bellis en route to their IAC softball win Monday.

Bellis went 3-for-4 with 4-RBI with two doubles while Mennig was 1-for-4 2-RBI.

Kiana Manuel went 3-for-4 with three runs while Sabrina Bowman, Reylyn Schwartzhoff, Becca Morgan and Morgan Salsman also had hits.

Bellis scored four times, Megan Wilbur had three runs scored, Mennig scored twice while Bowman, Shay Kraft and Carmella Ruth also scored.

Bellis got the win with four strikeouts.

Wellsboro 10, Liberty 0, 5 innings

A 6-run second inning pushed the Hornets to an NTL West softball win Monday.

Wellsboro scored two in the bottom of the first to take a lead, then made it 8-0 after the second. They added two more in the fifth to get the win.

Jenny Young and Sarah Ingerick went 2-for-4 for the Hornets. Young added 3-RBI and a run scored while Ingerick crossed home twice.

Paige Carr, Maggie Smith, Darci Warriner, Brooke Kohler, Baylea Lehman, and Peyton Wilson also had hits. Smith, Kohler, Lehman and Wilson both scored twice while Smith added 3-RBI. Carr had 2-RBI while Warriner knocked in a run.

Alexa Singer got the win, going four innings for four strike outs, one walk and one hit. Kohler pitched the fifth with two strikeouts.

Mariah Berguson had the lone Liberty hit while Maddie York scored the loss. York struck out three and walked two.

Wellsboro will travel to CV on Wednesday while Liberty is at Williamson.

Edison 8, Tioga 2

ELMIRA HEIGHTS, N.Y. - The Spartans offense proved too strong for the Tigers in IAC softball action Monday.

A 4-run first inning and 3-run fifth inning proved to be the difference for Edison.

Bry Godfrey (2-for-4) and Sam Pond (2-for-3) had multiple hit games for the Tigers while Sam Wood, Donnette Hutchison and Deanna Hutchison also had hits with Wood's a double.

Wood and Donnette Hutchison scored their two runs while Godfrey and Sierra Beebe had the RBI.

Wood scored the loss, striking out six while allowing three walks, 10 hits and six earned runs.

Katelyn Warren led the Spartan offense, going 3-for-4 with a double and run scored.

Taylor Engelbert earned the win, striking out two while allowing four walks, seven hits and two earned runs.

Tioga will host Afton today and travels to Notre Dame Wednesday.

Northeast Bradford 6, Sayre 0

Chelsie Souto struck out 14 and allowed one hit as the Panthers picked up an NTL East win Monday.

The Panthers scored three runs in the first inning then tacked on three more in the sixth to secure the win.

Calla Johnson and Maddy Johnson both went 2-for-3 for Northeast with Calla hitting a triple. Both scored as well.

Monica Brown went 2-for-4 with a run scored while Souto and Danielle Moore also had hits. MaKaylah Holbert also scored a run.

Kaitlyn Tappan had the lone hit for Sayre while Kristyn Tappan scored the loss. She had three strikeouts in the game.

Williamson 9, Cowanesque Valley 6

The Warriors opened their season with an NTL West Monday.

Julie Brubaker went 3-for-3 for the Indians while Courtney Schauer and Becky Plummer both went 2-for-4.

Shanelle Ianson scored the loss, She went six innings, striking out eight while allowing four walks and 10 hits.

Notre Dame 5, Newark Valley 0

Olivia May allowed just two hits as the Crusaders pulled out an IAC win Monday.

May also went 3-for-4 from the plate with two doubles and two runs scored.

Claire Spalding went 2-for-4 with a run scored while Alivia Clark, Briar Harvey and Alaina Steadman also had hits. Clark and Harvey also scored while Mackenzie Maloney and Allie Raupers had RBI.

South Williamsport 6, Canton 2

The Warriors lost in a non-league softball game Monday.

Chelsey Heatley was 2-for-4 with a triple to lead the Canton hitters while Felicia Diefenderfer went 1-for-3 with a triple.

Heatley earned the loss in the circle.
