Troy edges NEB in 8 innings; Athens tops Towanda.

LERAYSVILLE - A 2-out, 2-run home run by Troy's Tiffani Mattocks in the top of the eighth inning propelled the Trojans to a 5-3 win in NTL East softball action.

Taylor Johnston kept the inning a live with a double just before Mattocks' blast.

Troy took an early lead with a run in the second and two more in the third to go up 3-0. Northeast came back in the fifth with two, then tied it up in the sixth.

The Panthers had a chance to win it in the seventh but a good defensive play Kayla Stephani saved a run.

"Either team could have won it," Northeast Bradford coach Gary Hennip said. "It was a good game."

Kelsey Bristol went 2-for-4 with a run scored to lead the Trojans while Kelly Bridgham, Johnston and Tiffani Mattocks had the other hits. Mattocks also had 2-RBI with that home run.

Bristol scored once while Sara Hunsicker scored twice for the Trojans.

Kara Schucker earned the win, striking out four while allowing three walks.

Bridget Haverly went 3-for-3 to lead Northeast while Maddy Johnson and Courtney Coleman had the other hits. Johnson's was a double.

Shelby Park scored twice with Johnson scoring the other run.

Chelsie Souto was strong in the loss, striking out nine while allowing three walks.

Troy improves to 9-2 in the NTL East standings while Northeast falls to 9-3. Wyalusing leads at 10-1 but still has to play Troy twice and Northeast once more.

Northeast will travel to Towanda Wednesday.

Athens 3, Towanda 2

WYSOX - Tied at two Athens courtesy runner Kaitlyn Testen scored on an error to give the Wildcats an NTL East softball win.

Towanda struck first in the second as Sam Schoonover scored, then added another run in the bottom of the third as Alaina Wickwire hit in Mackenzie Roof.

Athens came back in the fourth as Rica Dimon and Jensen Dunkling both scored to knot the game at 4-all.

For the most part it was a pitcher's duel with Athens' Kaitlyn Serfass earning the win, going the distance to strikeout seven while allowing six hits, two earned runs and no walks.

For Towanda Alaina Wickwire allowed just three hits and no walks while striking out five. Only one run was earned.

Jensen Dunkling went 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Wildcats while Rica Dimon had the other hit.

Sam Schoonover led the Knights, going 2-for-3 with a run scored while Koryn Wickwire, Mackenzie Roof, Alaina Wickwire and Sarah Dawsey had the other Towanda hits. Dawsey's hit was a double.

It was a big win for the Wildcats as they improve to 7-5 overall on the year while Towanda falls to 9-6 on the year.

Towanda will host Northeast Bradford Wednesday.

Wellsboro 7, Cowanesque Valley 3

The Green Hornets avenged a loss from earlier this season with the NTL West win.

Wellsboro scored three runs in each of the first two innings en route to the victory.

Maggie Smith was 2-for-3 with a home run, double and 3-RBI with two runs scored to lead the Hornets while Sarah Ingerick was 2-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI. Paige Carr went 2-for-4 as well.

Baylea Lehman, Jordan Butters, Alexa Singer, Jenny Young and Darci Warriner also had hits with Singer's hit a double.

Lehman had 2-RBI while Butters also had an RBI.

Singer earned the win, striking out seven while allowing three walks, four hits and one earned run.

Shanelle Ianson went 2-for-2 to lead CV while Courtney Schauer and Jessi Prutsman had one hit each.

Ianson scored the loss, striking out six while allowing five walks.

The Hornets are now 9-5 in NTL play on the year while CV falls to 5-6.

Wellsboro will host Williamson Friday.

Williamson 10, Canton 6

Sierra Magnotta went 3-for-4 with two runs scored as Williamson picked up an NTL West win.

Jamie Cook, Paige Fish and Megan Wyble had two hits each with one of Fish's a double. Brooke Greenwalt had a double while Savannah Bradshaw also had a hit.

Wibble and Greenwalt scored twice while Sarah Bates, Katie Haslund, Bradshaw and Fish also crossed home.

Bates earned the win, striking out three while allowing seven walks and nine hits.

Emily Jennings had two hits, including a double, with 3-RBI and a run scored for Canton while Maggy Machmer had two hits, including a double, with an RBI.

Kellsy Ross, Makenzy Route, Emily Ambruch and Caitlin McFall also had hits.

Chelsey Heatley scored twice while Ross, Route and Felicia Diefenderfer also crossed home.

Heatley started and earns the loss, going six innings to strike out six with 10 hits and one walk. Ross went the final inning with two strikeouts and one hit.

Canton is at CV Wednesday.
