Wellsboro's pitchers only allowed three hits as the Green Hornets won their opener 10-0 over Coudersport on Saturday.
At the plate Wellsboro chipped away throughout the game with a big 4-run inning in the fourth breaking it open.
Brandon Owlett went 3-for-3 with two triples and 4-RBI to lead Wellsboro while Matt Reese (2-for-3), Ben Shaw (2-for-5) and Dylan Prough (2-for-4) were also strong at the plate. Reese and Shaw each had a double while Dawson Prough, Shaw and Prough had an RBI each.
Luke Rudy, Connor Coolidge, Cody DeHaas and Joe Allen had one hit each.
Prough was the starting pitcher, going 2 1/3-innings with two strikeouts, three walks and two hits. Owlett went the next 2 2/3-innings with five strikeouts, two walks and a hit to record the win, with Coolidge going the final two innings, striking out four with three walks.
The Hornets will host Mansfield on Monday with a 4:30 p.m. start.
The Indians came up short in their season opener at home on Saturday.
Brandon Whitesell and Luke Plummer had two hits each for CV with Whitesell's one hit a triple. He also had an RBI while Plummer scored a run.
Nate Bonham had a hit while Ryan Freeman scored a run and knocked one in.
Plummer, Whitesell and Tyler Melko combined for seven strikeouts in the loss.
CV is at Williamson Monday.
Softball
Emily Faulkner struck out 14 as the Rams picked up a non-league win Saturday.
Faulkner got the win, going all seven innings and allowing just one walk and five hits. She also had a 2-run single in the second inning and scored a run.
Ally DeVoir and Ciera Holland both went 2-for-3 for Wyalusing with Holland's one hit a double. Holland also had an RBI with a run scored.
Kasey DeVoir and Paighton Martin had a hit each while Arielle Kneller scored a run.
The Rams host Athens Monday.
A nine run first inning helped the Indians pull away from Sullivan Saturday.
Addie Jordan had the lone Griffin hit, a double, along with three put outs at shortstop.
They also got good defensive play from Shelby Zeller, who pulled out a double play during the game, and Noelle Henninger, who had a long catch the fence.
Alyssa Blasi scored the loss, striking out one while allowing 10 walks, nine hits and seven earned runs.
Sullivan hosts Liberty next Tuesday.
