WYALUSING - Wyalusing found their offensive groove Tuesday as they pounded out 19 hits in their 12-2 win over CMVT in six innings during the first round of District IV, Class AA softball action Tuesday.
"The girls did a good job hitting the ball tonight," Wyalusing coach Jack Loomis said.
A 7-run first inning provided the spark for Wyalusing. After a scoreless second they added runs in every inning the rest of the way to advance.
Cierra Holland went 4-for-5 with a double and 2-RBI to lead Wyalusing while Emily Faulkner was 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Kasey DeVoir was 4-for-5 with a double, two runs and 2-RBI, Ally DeVoir was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, Mackenzie Martin was 2-for-3 and Paighton Martin also went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Arielle Kneller added a double with a run scored and an RBI while Crystal Shirk and Mackenzie Crewson also had hits.
Katie Epler and Crewson scored as well.
Faulkner struck out eight in the win while allowing four hits and two earned runs. She issued no walks, too.
Now Wyalusing will travel to top seed Warrior Run on Thursday with a 4:30 p.m. start.
"All the pressure is on Warrior Run," Loomis remarked. "They're expected to win so were going to give it our best shot and see what happens."
He's coached high school softball long enough to know anything's possible.
"Anything can happen," Loomis said. "Anybody can beat anybody. I think our team is good enough to compete with anybody. I'm certainly not counting our team out, if the girls come out and we play our best I think we can play with anybody."
Wyalusing has been in a their fair share of close games this year, something Loomis hopes will help them this week.
"I'm hoping they're prepared for the pressure going into Thursday," he said. "We know (Warrior Run) has a good pitcher and were going to come out aggressive and take our chances."
