The Troy Trojans moved a step closer to capturing the NTL softball title as they defeated Wellsboro 2-1 on Tuesday.
The Trojans hold a two-game lead over Towanda in the NTL standings and the two teams meet on Friday.
Brooke Losey-Root had two hits, a double and a run for Troy and Kayla Stephani had two hits with an RBI.
Taylor Johnston had a hit and an RBI, Brooke Mattocks had a double and Kelsey Bristol had a hit and scored a run.
Both of Troy's runs came in the fifth when Root doubled and scored on a Stephani base hit and Bristol had an infield single and scored on a Johnston hit.
Peyton Wilson had a hit and an RBI and Sarah Ingerick and Paige Carr each had doubles for Wellsboro. Ingerick scored Wellsboro's run in the sixth, doubling and scoring off a Wilson single.
Jerilyn Ross pitched 5 1/3 innings for Troy, striking out two and allowing one hit and three walks. Kerrigan Hoffman allowed two hits and a walk, striking out two in 1 2/3 innings.
Brooke Kohler struck out six and walked two in seven innings for Wellsboro.
Wellsboro hosts Coudersport on Thursday.
SAYRE - Williamson got a 4-for-4 day from Megan Wyble, who scored three runs, in their win on Tuesday.
Andi Regalbuto had a pair of hits and scored a run and Sarah Bates had two hits.
Kendra Colegrove had a hit and stole a base and Hanna Fitzmartin had a hit and scored a run.
Kate Cron had three hits, with a home run for Sayre and Kaitlyn Tappan had two hits and scored two runs.
Kristyn Tappan had two hits and scored a run and Maria Servedio and Kaitlynn McCarter each had two hits, while Paige Wampole and Caitlyn Garrity each added hits for Sayre.
Bates struck out seven for Williamson in the win.
Kristyn Tappan struck out four for Sayre.
Calla Johnson and Monica Brown each had home runs for NEB in the victory.
Johnson scored two runs in the game and Brown had two hits, with four RBI.
Maddy Johnson was 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and a stolen base and Angelia Laudermilch and Megan Brown each scored two runs.
Chelsie Souto had 2 hits, 2 runs and two RBI and Bridget Haverly had a double.
Courtney Coleman had an RBI and Danielle Moore had two hits with an RBI.
Annie Williams went the distance on the mound, striking out seven and allowing four hits, one walk and one unearned run.
Makenzy Route had a double for Canton and Lauryn Watkins had a hit and scored a run, while Kellsy Ross and Joslyn Spencer each had hits.
Kayla Ward pitched for Canton.
NEB hosts Towanda today.
