CANTON - In a back and forth game Athens held on to beat Canton 9-7 in NTL softball action Wednesday.
The Lady Warriors struck first with two runs in the bottom of the third but the Wildcats rallied with four runs in the top of the fourth.
They added three more runs in the fifth to go up 7-2 but Canton fought back, getting two runs back in the bottom half of the inning.
In the top of the seventh Athens scored two runs to make it a 9-4 deficit. Canton would have one more offensive strike in them, getting three in the bottom half of the inning, but the Wildcats held them off for the win.
Aubrey Allen led Athens at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and 2-RBI while Kaitlyn Testen was 3-for-4 with three runs and one run batted in.
Jensen Dunkling went 2-for-4 with two runs while Lexi Morley had a double with a run scored and 2-RBI. Hannah Reid had a hit with 2-RBI as well.
In the circle Dunkling went the distance, striking out seven while allowing eight hits, five walks and six earned runs.
Kayla Ward was strong at the plate for Canton, going 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs and an RBI while Lauryn Watkins (1-for-3) had a double with 2-RBI and a run scored and Kelsey Griffin (1-for-3) had a double with an RBI.
Lacey Castle, Caitlin McFall and Joslyn Spencer also had hits.
Maggy Machmer, Castle, McFall and Spencer all scored while Spencer knocked in two runs with Sidney Wheeler also getting an RBI.
Griffin started and earned the loss, going three innings to allow five hits and four runs, three of them earned. Wheeler came on in the third but didn't record an out as she allowed one walk.
Ward pitched the rest of the game, striking out two while allowing one walk, five hits and five runs, two of them earned.
Alivia Clark homered twice as the Crusaders pounded out 17 hits in their IAC softball win Wednesday.
Clark was 2-for-5 with three runs and 4-RBI while Brooke Harvey (3-for-5) had a triple with two runs scored and Mackenzie Maloney (3-for-5) had a double with two runs scored.
Ally Wichtowski was 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI, Courtney Crater was 2-for-4 with a double and 2-RBI while Isabel Milazzo was 2-for-3 with two runs and 3-RBI.
Dylan Leonard, Morgan Cox and Maura Glovins also had hits for the Crusaders.
Cox scored twice while Leonard and Glovins also crossed home while Cox knocked in two runs with Makenzie Mahajan knocking in a run as well.
Clark started and went 2 1/3-innings with three strikeouts, five hits and five walks with six runs, five of them earned.
Milazzo went the rest of the way for the win, striking out four while allowing five hits and no walks with two runs, one of them earned.
