A pair of area teams earned spots in the state softball playoffs this year and they head this year's The Daily & Sunday Review All-Region softball team.
The Notre Dame softball team is headed to the N.Y. State Class C final four next weekend and Alivia Clark is a big part of that success. Clark has been one of the region's top hitters and pitchers this year and she is the All-Region Player of the Year.
In Pennsylvania the Wellsboro Green Hornets won the District 4, Class AA title and advanced to states and freshman Alyssa Yungwirth is the pitcher of the year, while teammate Sarah Ingerick is the defensive player of the year for her play at shortstop.
Northeast Bradford's Maddy Johnson had a dominant season at the plate for the Panthers, hitting over .500 on the year, and she is the offensive player of the year.
Tioga's Mariah Culver had a big season for the Tigers with her bat, and on the mound, helping to lead the team to the sectional finals and she is this year's newcomer of the year.
A year ago the Liberty softball team won one game, this year the team had double digit wins and advanced to states and for their success coach Lynn Grinnell and his staff are the coaching staff of the year.
Clark heads the first-team list along with Johnson, Ingerick, Yungwirth and Culver. Tioga's Sam Wood is on the first team, along with Waverly's Kiana Manuel, Wyalusing's Ally and Kasey DeVoir and Wellsboro's Alexa Singer.
Williamson's Kendra Colegrove is on the first team along with Athens' Jensen Dunkling, Northeast Bradford's Annie Williams and Troy's Kelsey Bristol, Faith Ceely and Jerilyn Ross.
Liberty's Mariah Berguson, Waverly's Sam Mennig and Tioga's Dani Barto round out the first team.
The second team includes Waverly's Shaelei Kraft and Stephanie Bellis and Notre Dame's Brooke Harvey and Izzy Milazzo.
Wyalusing's Paighton Martin is on the second team with Sayre's Paige Wampole and Kate Cron and Canton's Maggy Machmer.
CV's Kayla Schauer, Jessi Prutsman and Becky Plummer are on the second team with NEB's Julia Williams and Danielle Moore.
Troy's Brooke Mattocks and Kerrigan Hoffman are on the second team, along with Athens' Aubrey Allen and Lexi Morley, Tioga's Brittany Vergason, Towanda's Mackenzie Roof, Wellsboro's Jenny Young and Wyalusing's Kate Epler.
Culver and Yungwirth head the rookie team, along with Morley and Towanda's Justine Vargason and Madi Doss and CV's Madison Lee.
Liberty's Abby Heatley, Troy's Vanessa Watson and NEB's Gabby Slater are on the rookie team, along with Tioga's Sara Strong.
Sullivan County's Quincy Fry, Kassandra Houseknecht and Stefanie Kramer are on the rookie team with Sayre's Heather Croft, Waverly's Kendra Ellers and Kristie Epler of Wyalusing.
CV's Amaya Walker, Notre Dame's Hannah Mahon and Emma Koppenhaver and Jillian Berguson of Liberty round out the rookie team.
The gold glove winners include Wellsboro's Paige Carr at catcher and Clark at pitcher.
NEB's Katie Boardman is the gold glove winner at first base and Maura Glovins of Notre Dame is the winner at second base, while Wyalusing's Ally DeVoir gets the honor at third base. Ingerick is the winner at shortstop.
The outfield gold glove winners are Maddy Johnson of Northeast Bradford, Paige Hendershot of Tioga and Hannah Reid of Athens.
