Wyalusing's DeVoir named Review's Female Athlete of the YearAs a freshman Wyalusing's Kasey DeVoir was our choice as The Daily & Sunday Review Girls' Newcomer of the Year.

Four years later the Wyalusing senior is the paper's Girls' Athlete of the Year.

The Rams senior is the first player to earn both newcomer of the year and athlete of the year in their career.

DeVoir was a first team All-Region and NTL selection in soccer, basketball and softball this year. She went over 50 career goals in soccer and over 1,000 career points in basketball.

The senior helped lead the Rams to an undefeated NTL season in basketball, capturing the league title, and helped the softball team get to districts.

"Soccer was rough, we didn't have the best season for soccer, but it was nice that so many people on our team hit milestones," DeVoir said. "Like, Paighton (Martin) and I got 50 goals and Ally (DeVoir) got 50 assists.

"Basketball was great, I wish we were further in districts, but it was amazing. Everything about basketball season was amazing, I wish we could go back to it. Softball, I wish we would have gone further in districts. I wish we had won a few more of those games, but everyone did well. It was a good year.

In all three sports Kasey played with her twin sister Ally and that was a special part of her career.

"I am going to miss her so much it's ridiculous," Kasey DeVoir said. "Ever since we were little we have always been together constantly. She has always been my biggest supporter and I have always been hers. We have had each other's backs forever. We are going to different colleges. It's going to be so weird, especially not playing sports with her."

Kasey will be attending Penn State Main Campus next year while Ally will be at King's College.

Kasey knows her sister helped her with all the success she had in high school and she knows being part of a good senior class of athletes at Wyalusing was also a huge help.

"All of my teammates are incredible," Kasey said. "They are so great, but obviously my number one, my favorite one is my sister and I couldn't have done anything without her.

"They are such good athletes, all of them. We have had each others' backs, we have all been there for each other ever since we were little. We couldn't accomplish anything without each other, we all confided in each other. We all had each others' backs all the way up."

For DeVoir it is special being named the athlete of the year.

"I really wasn't expecting it," DeVoir said. "It means a lot, we all put so much time in. There have been so many good athletes in my class and within the whole NTL. It's a complete honor and a shock for me to get this, it means a lot.

"I wasn't expecting it at all, I worked really hard, but then again, so did everyone else in the NTL. There are a lot of great athletes in the NTL."

Among the other athletes strongly considered for the award were Wellboro's Sarah Ingerick; NEB's Lydia Werner; Athens' Breana Gambrell and Emily Lunger; Sayre's Chloe Tracy; Waverly's Kiana Manuel; Troy's Faith Ceely, Kelsey Bristol and Brooke Mattocks and the Rams' Ally DeVoir, Martin and Morrison.

With her heading to Penn State it means the end of varsity sports for Kasey Devoir, but she knows she won't ever be completely finished with sports.

"I'll play some intramural, Penn State is such a big school," DeVoir said. "It's going to be weird, but it's also going to be nice sometimes to not have to go to practice here and be able to do my own thing. But, there is no way I'm not going to be able to play sports, because I'm going to want to constantly."

For Kasey DeVoir this year, and the honor, are the right way to end her high school career.

"I can't believe it's over," she said. "I am going to miss it so much. It's definitely a good way to wrap it up."
