Williamson, Canton earn softball wins.

Williamson moved one step closer to earning a district berth as they edged Cowanesque Valley 8-6 in NTL softball action Friday.

The Warriors jumped out 2-0 in the first inning but CV tied it at 2-2 in the second.

Both teams got a run in the third, a 3-run fifth inning by Williamson gave them some separation.

CV tied it back up with three runs in the top of the sixth, but the Warriors came back when a 2-out, bases loaded Makayla Butz single scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Williamson then held CV scoreless in the seventh to hold on to the win.

The Warriors now just need one more win to reach the magic number of 10 and earn a district berth.

Butz was 2-for-3 with two runs and 3-RBI on the day while Kendra Colegrove was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

Both Andrea Regalbuto and Emma Durst both went 2-for-3. Regalbuto had two doubles and 4-RBI while Durst scored a run.

Sarah Bates had a double with two runs while Hannah Fitzmartin also scored.

Bates got the win, striking out three while allowing three walks, 11 hits and six runs.

For CV Kayla Schauer went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI while Madison Lee (2-for-4) had a double, run scored and 2-RBI and Jenna Romera (2-for-3) scored a run and knocked one in.

Maddy Huyler had a double while Maddy Hatch, Emma McClaren and Amaya Walker also had hits.

Huyler and Hatch both scored while Walker knocked in a run.

Ashleigh Southard started while Hatch came on in relief.

They combined for one strikeout, nine hits, three walks and eight runs.

Canton 7, Troy 1

The Warriors scored all seven runs in the first three innings as the earned a spot in the Class A, District IV tournament.

Brooke Ward (2-for-4), Evelyn Katona (2-for-4), Maggy Machmer (2-for-4) and Lacey Castle (2-for-4) all had multiple hits in the game for Canton.

Lauryn Watkins and Kelsey Griffin also had hits.

Ward, Watkins, Griffin, Katona, Castle, Hannah Gilliland and Caitlin Pepper all scored.

Ward and Castle had 2-RBIs each while Katona, Machmer and Pepper also knocked in runs.

Machmer went the distance for the win, striking out two while allowing five hits, one walk and one unearned run.

Nicole Spalding went 2-for-3 to lead the Trojans while Vanessa Watson had a double.

Roxanne Kingsley and Gaby Cory also had hits.

Watson started in the circle but only went a 1/3 of an inning, allowing three hits, one walk and three runs, two of them earned.

Kerrigan Hoffmann went the rest of the way, striking out six while allowing seven hits, one walk and four runs, two of them earned.
