ATHENS – Athens senior Aubrey Allen, surrounded by family, friends, and teammates, signed her letter of intent to play collegiate softball at West Chester University Wednesday afternoon.
Allen originally committed to play at Coppin State, but recently had a change of heart.
"They actually didn't have my major,” said Allen, who plans to study computer science engineering. "It also wasn't the campus I wanted."
After the change of plans, Allen wasn't sure where to look. After a visit to West Chester, Allen fell in love.
"When I recently de-committed from my D1 scholarship, I started panicking,” said Allen. "I decided I might as well stay in Pennsylvania. I went to a camp, and loved the coach and loved the place, it was awesome."
This season, the Athens Lady Wildcat softball team has been having success. Now that she has her signing out of the way, Allen hopes to take the confidence garnered from the event and help her team improve.
"I feel really great now,” said the senior. "I really love taking all this confidence and bringing it back to my team, and boosting them up to get excited to win."
Allen will now tell the underclassmen on the Lady Wildcat's roster to shoot for the stars.
"You just have to work hard honestly,” said Allen. "It's something that you never realize you're going to get to until you get there."
The West Chester Lady Golden Rams are currently 33-9 on the season. The Lady Golden Rams are part of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and compete at the Division II level.
