Towanda tops NEB with walk-off.

Towanda left the bases loaded in the third, fourth and sixth innings but found just enough mustard to edge NEB, 5-4, on Friday with a walk-off single from Lars Thomason in the seventh inning.
In the seventh inning with one out, Luke Tama reached on an error, Shane Martin then grounded into a fielder's choice, and Troy Pierce reached on an error. Next, Caleb Lines singled, scoring Martin. Then Brett Crispell singled, scoring Pierce. With the winning run on third, Lars Thomason singled and drove in Lines to win the game.
"It was a nice come-from-behind win," Towanda coach Bill Sexton said. "We’ve have many situations this year where we've come from behind and couldn't win the game. We've lost five games this year with the winning run in scoring position and then line drives in the gaps get caught."
For Towanda, Crispell had two hits, two RBI and a stolen base, Shane Martin added two hits, three runs and a stolen base, Caleb Lines had two hits, a walk and a run, Thomason finished with two hits and an RBI, Pierce had one hit, one walk and one run, Tyler Bidlack added two hits and Luke Tama scored a run.
For NEB, Grant Allis had a two-run home run, Garret Smith finished with two hits, two stolen bases, a run and a walk, Nate Watkins added a run, two hits and an RBI, Max Cooper added a walk and a stolen base and Roland Phytila had one run.
Thomason started for Towanda. In five innings of work he allowed four runs, none earned, on four hits and two walks and struck out four. Caleb Lines relieved him for two innings, striking out one, allowing two hits and no runs and earning his first career win in his last career game.
Ian Wilbur started for NEB, in three innings he allowed one unearned run on four hits and one walk and struck out one. Nate Chilson relieved him for two and two thirds innings, allowing one earned run on four hits and three walks. Allis pitched the final inning, allowing three unearned runs on three hits.
"The kids didn't quit," Sexton continued. "They haven't quit all year. With two outs to come back and win a game is nice in a frustrating year. Extra credit to Crispell, who came into the fourth inning cold and had two hits, two RBI and a stolen base, a nice job for a replacement-JV player. All five of our runs were scored by 7-9 order batters. Lines probably had the best game of his career in the last game of his career. All in all it was a good way to end a frustrating season."
Sayre 9, Cowanesque Valley 7
Quinn Hanafin finished with two runs, three hits, including a double, and one RBI to lead Sayre to their 9-7 victory over Cowanesque Valley on Friday.
For Sayre, Jake Goodrich had one run, two hits, including a triple, and two RBI, James Esposito added two runs, two hits and one RBI, John Esposito scored a run, Jon Cron added one run, two hits and one RBI, Ryan Murrelle finished with one run, one hit and two RBI, Camden Wheeler finished with one hit and Isaiah Firestine had one run, one hit and one RBI.
For CV, Chris Lingle had three runs and three hits, Kurtis Easton had one run, a double and an RBI, Owen Fitzwater had two hits and one RBI, Caleb Fitzwater had one hit, Jace Beiser and Corey Wells each finished with one RBI, Christian Kemp added one run and one hit and Wynn Doan and Seth Huyler each had one run.
Murrelle started for Sayre, in four innings of work he allowed two earned runs on five hits and four walks and struck out one. James Esposito relieved him and pitched the last three innings, allowing five runs, one earned, on three hits and striking out three.
Owen Fitzwater started for CV, in two and two thirds innings he allowed five runs, three earned, on five hits and three walks and struck out one. Beiser relieved him and allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits and two walks in two innings of work. Lingle pitched the last inning and a third, allowing two earned runs on two hits and one walk and striking out two.
Athens 7, Wyalusing 3
Luke Newman scored two runs, hit a double and a home run and drove in two runs to lead Athens to their 7-3 win over Wyalusing on Friday.
For Athens, Cory Stivason added one run, two hits and one RBI, Daniel Joyce had a double and a single, Marc Felt finished with one run, one hit and one RBI, Justin Reagan added one run and one hit, Cody Jennings had one hit, and Ethan Witherow and Kaden Rude each scored a run.
For Wyalusing, Shane Fuhrey had one hit and one RBI, Riley God finished with a run, a triple, and an RBI, Kyle Warner added two hits and one RBI, Cody Jackson had one run and one hit and Chandler Brown scored a run.
Jennings started for Athens. In six innings of work he allowed one earned run on three hits and struck out seven. Matt Collins pitched the last inning, allowing two earned runs on two hits and striking out one.
Holdan Hitchcock started for Wyalusing. In four innings he allowed two earned runs on four hits and two walks and struck out one. Brown pitched the last three innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on five hits and one walk and striking out one.
SOFTBALL
NEB 10, Towanda 0
Gabby Slater threw a complete game shutout for NEB. In seven innings of work she allowed no runs on five hits and struck out eight. On offense she had one run, two hits, including a triple, and two RBI to lead NEB to their 10-0 win over Towanda on Friday evening.
For NEB, Annie Williams led the offense with three runs, two hits, including a home run, and three RBI, Jaycee Brown added two hits and two RBI, Katie Boardman had one run, two hits, including a double, and one RBI, Taya Howell finished with one run and a double, Jordan Shumway, McKenna Wheaton, Jenna Hansen and Lindsay Moore each scored a run and Megan Brown and McKenna Hurley each had one hit.
For Towanda, Justine Vargason had two hits, and Gabby Larcom, Vanessa Vanderpool and Larisa Terry each had one hit.
Emily Dunn started for the Black Knights. In five innings of work she allowed seven runs, four earned, on seven hits and two walks. Terry relieved her for two innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits and striking out one.
Athens 18, Wyalusing 4, 5 innings
Emma Adams scored four runs, had three hits, including a double, and two RBI to lead Athens to their 18-4 victory over Wyalusing on Friday.
For Athens, Haley Barry finished with two runs, three hits, including a double, and three RBI, Leah Reid added two runs, two hits, including a double, and four RBI and Kendra Brown added three hits. Reagan Lynch finished with a run, two hits, and two RBI, Morgan Ferguson had two runs, one hit and three RBI, Mimi Martin had two runs, a hit and two RBI, Aubrey Allen finished with two runs and an RBI, Alexis Harford finished with two runs and Makenzie Strobridge scored a run.
For Wyalusing, Miranda Herbert had one run, a home run, and an RBI, Kyleigh Ward finished with a run and two hits, Melody Kneller had a run and two hits, Sarah Bird and Taylor Schum each had a hit and a run, and Shelby Kipp and Maddie Valaroso each had a hit.
Allen threw a complete game for Athens, striking out four and walking none.
Autumn Dietz pitched for Wyalusing, striking out one and walking seven.
