Down by one Wellsboro had runners on in the top of the seventh but Troy pitcher Kara Schucker was able to strikeout Hornet Jenny Young to end the threat and secure the 3-2 win in NTL cross-over softball action Tuesday.
The Trojans started quickly as Kelsey Bristol scored in the first inning to give them a 1-0 lead. A Schucker home run in the second inning made it 2-0 Troy while in the third Brooke Mattocks knocked in Faith Ceely put the Trojans up 3-0.
A Maggie Smith 2-run home run in the top of the fourth got the Hornets back in it but they couldn't tie it up.
Schucker and Kelly Bridgham were 2-for-3 to lead Troy while Bristol, Ceely, Mattocks, Brooke Root and Tiffani Mattocks also had hits.
Schucker had six strikeouts and no walks in the win.
Sarah Ingerick was 2-for-3 with a double and run scored to lead the Hornets while Smith, Jordan Butters and Alexa Singer had the other Wellsboro hits.
Kohler and Singer combined for five strikeouts and no walks.
Troy will take on Williamson at Elkland High School today.
Chelsie Souto continued her strong pitching, allowing just two hits and striking out nine as the Panthers picked up an NTL East softball win Tuesday.
Maddy Johnson (2-for-4), MaKaylah Holbert (2-for-4) and Souto (2-for-3) all had multiple hits in the game for the Panthers. Souto's included a double and 3-RBI, Johnson scored twice and Holbert knocked in a run.
Monica Brown had a double while Courtney Coleman, Angelia Laudermilch and Danielle Moore also had hits.
Calla Johnson and Coleman both scored twice while Brown and Moore also crossed home. Brown and Laudermilch knocked in one run each.
Laci Manning and Alaina Wickwire had the two Towanda hits with Sam Schoonover scoring the run.
Wickwire scores the loss while Alysha Grimes also saw action.
Northeast will travel to Wellsboro today.
Katelyn Serfass struck out five and allowed just four hits as the Wildcats picked up an NTL cross-over softball win Monday.
Athens struck first in the third as Jensen Dunkling scored off a Serfass single. In the fourth a Rica Dimon sacrifice fly brought in Searah Kennedy to make it 2-0.
The Wildcats added their final two runs in the fifth as Dunking and Serfass both scored.
Dunkling and Mackenzie Hafer both went 2-for-4 to lead the Wildcats while Serfass had the other hit.
Serfass, Dimon and Sarah Munn had the RBI.
Katie Carrigan scores the loss for Liberty, striking out one while allowing five hits, four runs, none of which were earned, and three walks.
Madison Wise was 2-for-3 to lead the Mountaineers while Madison York and Calyne Pino had one hit each.
