ATHENS -- A Hannah Reid hit drove home Morgan Ferguson with the winning run on Tuesday as the Athens softball team walked off with a 4-3 win over Wellsboro.
"It was so nerve-wracking, but we pulled out the win, it was exciting," Emma Adams said.
For Ferguson, it was a big moment scoring the winning run.
"We lost yesterday (to NEB), we crumbled in the last inning, then we pulled it out today and had no errors," she said. "I was very happy (to score the winning run), I loved it. I haven't gotten on base too much this year, but that was a really good feeling."
The Athens players knew this was a big win.
"It puts us back in the NTL race," Reid said. "Everyone was saying Athens was supposed to lose this game, but we proved everyone wrong."
"I knew we could do it as a team, it took eight innings, but we pulled out the win."
Reid, Adams, Kaitlyn Testen, Aubrey Allen, Lexi Morley, Taylor Jenney and Hayleigh Macik had hits for Athens in the game.

With a young team the Wildcats feel like they are improving as the year goes on.
"We are all playing different positions, we are just getting used to it and going with it as it goes," Adams said. "This was probably everyone's best game."
And, the Wildcats were happy they bounced back from a loss.
"This is what this team is, we never stop, never quit," Ferguson said.
