SOUTHPORT, N.Y. — Izzy Milazzo threw a one-hit shutout as Notre Dame defeated Union Springs 7-0 in IAC cross-over softball action Tuesday.
Milazzo struck out eight and allowed no walks in the one-hitter on 76 pitches.
Jordyn Fargo (3-for-4) lead the Crusaders with a double and 2-RBI.
Mackenzie Mahajan (2-for-4), Mackenzie Maloney (2-for-3), Milazzo (2-for-3), Ally Witchtowski (2-for-4) and Taylor VanDine (2-for-3) also had multiple hits on the day. Mahajan and Mackenzie Maloney each had a double while Megan Niles and Courteney Crater also had a hit.
Mackenzie Maloney scored twice with Mahajan, Maura Glovins, Witchtowski, Peyton Maloney and VanDine also crossed home.
Mackenzie Maloney knocked in two runs with Niles, Mahajan and Witchtowski each getting an RBI.
A 6-run fourth inning helped the Panthers survive a late Wildcat rally in NTL softball action Tuesday.
NEB led 7-1 after the inning and 8-2 going into the top of the seventh when Athens fought back. The Lady 'Cats scored four runs in the top half of the final inning, but couldn't quite get over the top.
McKenna Wheaton went 3-for-4 to lead NEB while Gabby Slater was 2-for-4 with 2-RBI and a run scored.
Megan Brown, Katie Boardman and Jaycee Brown each had hits. Megan Brown scored twice while Slater, Jordan Shumway, Boardman, Morgan Post, Taya Howell and Jaycee Brown also crossed home.
Megan Brown knocked in two runs with Annie Williams, Boardman, Howell and Jaycee Brown each getting an RBI.
Slater threw 126 pitches to get the complete game win. She struck out three while allowing three walks, nine hits and six earned runs.
Mimi Martin (3-for-4) had a double, run scored and 3-RBI for Athens while Aubrey Allen and Morgan Ferguson had two hits a piece. Allen had a double, two runs and an RBI while Ferguson had a double with 2-RBI.
Emma Adams and Reagan Lynch both had hits with a run scored while Angela Hudock crossed home.
Adams started and went the first three innings for the loss. She struck out one while allowing two walks, five hits and six runs, five of them earned, on 65 pitches.
Allen finished out, striking out three while allowing one walk, three hits and two runs, one of them earned, on 47 pitches.
In the first game of a double-header, Tiger pitcher Mariah Culver threw a 2-hit shutout for the win.
Culver struck out 11 while allowing four walks to go with the two hits on 81 pitches.
She was also 2-for-3 with a double while Sara Strong was 2-for-3 with a double and 3-RBI.
Abby Lyons added a double with Madelyn Dydynski, Megan Godfrey, Sarah Hollenbeck and Kurstan Martin also getting hits. Hollenbeck knocked in two runs.
Morgan Babcock scored three times in the game with Dydynski, Godfrey and Martin also crossing home.
In the nightcap, the Tigers pounded out 17 hits for the IAC win and sweep.
Kurstan Martin (4-for-4) had two triples, a double, four runs and 3-RBI in the second game while Sarah Hollenbeck and Sara Strong both went 3-for-4. Strong had a double, three runs and an RBI while Hollenbeck had three runs and 3-RBI.
Madalyn Dydynski (2-for-3) had a triple, double, three runs and 3-RBI while Megan Godfrey (2-for-3) had 2-RBI with a run scored.
Kelsey Vosburg (2-for-2) scored twice and had 2-RBI.
Marissa Howe had a hit with 2-RBI and a run scored while Mariah Culver scored a run and Justice Pahlman drove one in.
Dydynski got the win, striking out eight while allowing two hits, one walk and one unearned run on 57 pitches.
Wendi Hammond was perfect in her five-inning outing, striking out 11 for the Wolverines.
Riley Hall (4-for-4) had a home run, two runs and 7-RBI to lead Waverly.
Shailei Kraft (2-for-4) had two doubles, three runs and 2-RBI, Zoe Mennig (2-for-3) had a double and run scored and Jordan Mente (2-for-3) scored twice and had 3-RBI.
Kennedy Wheeler had a double, two runs and an RBI while Hammond and Morgan Adams each had a hit. Hammond and Adams both scored twice.
Paige Miller crossed home twice while knocking in a run. Kari VanAllen also scored.
