The Wellsboro Junior High Softball team beat Athens and tied Sayre on Saturday, May 14.
The win against Athens, 11-10, was the team's 2nd win of the season and broke a 5-game losing streak.
Against Athens, the young Lady Wildcats scored twice in the 1st inning to take an early lead, only to have it diminished by Wellsboro, who plated 6 runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead. Wellsboro scored twice more in the 2nd and found themselves up leading 11-8 after the 4th inning and hung on for the win.
Bailee Confer had 3 hits on the day to lead the young Lady Hornets while Kieleigh Barrido-Hoover, Ella Boyce, Mazie Johnson, and Claire Browning all had 2 hits each. Claire Browning, Mazie Johnson, and Lauren Kosek combined for 5 strikeouts and 7 hits in the circle.
Against Sayre both teams were tied at 1-all after the first inning and both teams continued to trade the lead until Wellsboro scored twice in the 6th to tie the game up. Ella Boyce had 3 hits including an inside the park home run while Kaelyn Peterson, Makenzi Roan (including a game tying triple), and Blake Eckart all had 2 hits each. Bailee Confer, Miya Kemp, and Mazie Johnston each added 1 hit.
Bailee Confer, Lauren Kosek, and Claire Browning combined for 4 strikeouts and 8 hits.
The team is back in action on Wednesday, May 18 against Williamson.
