Lady Hornets Start Strong, Get Edged Out By Wyalusing, 6-4

A 4-run 2nd inning propelled the Wyalusing Lady Rams to a 6-4 victory over the Wellsboro Varsity Softball team on Tuesday.
The Lady Hornets got off to a quick start in the first inning, scoring 3 runs. Freshman Adelyn Frantz got things rolling with a solo home run on a 1-1 count to lead off the game. Senior Paige Logsdon then reached base on a fielders choice and freshman Teagan Novinger singled, putting two runners aboard. A bunt from freshman Delaney Morral scored Logsdon as Morral reached base on an error, then senior Madelynn Losinger grounded out to 2nd but scored freshman Hannah Taylor, running for Novinger.
The Lady Rams got a run back in the bottom half of the inning, but opened their offense up with a 4-run 2nd inning to take a 5-3 lead over Wellsboro. The Lady Hornets did the lead down to 5-4 in the top of the 3rd as freshman Rylee Coolidge scored after being hit with a pitch. Logsdon drove Coolidge home with a base hit on a full count.
Wyalusing added an insurance run in the bottom of the 4th while holding Wellsboro scoreless the rest of the way, to earn the 2-run, 6-4 win.
Novinger led Wellsboro at the plate, going 2-for-4 while Frantz and Logsdon added the remaining 2 of the Lady Hornets' 4 hits on the afternoon. Logsdon suffered the loss on the mound, allowing 4 runs (0 earned) on 1 hit with 3 walks and a strikeout in 1 & 1/3 innings. Frantz came on for the final 4 & 2/3 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits with 5 strikeouts.
Addisyn Bly and Addison Fluck both had a pair of hits for Wyalusing with Bly scoring a pair of runs. Fluck also threw a complete game, allowing 4 runs (3 earned) in 7 innings on 4 hits with 3 walks and 10 strikeouts.
Wellsboro falls to 1-5 (1-5 NTL Large School Division) with the loss. They are back in action Thursday against Sullivan County in a non-league game.
