The Wellsboro Junior High Softball team split a pair of games at Athens on Monday, April 28.
Wellsboro won game one 5-1 then lost the second, 17-1.
In the first game the young Lady Hornets had 6 hits: one each by Haylie Smith, Rachel Weaver, Ryleigh Sporer, Kya Lawton, Genevieve Fleming, and Maddison Grabowski. Smith pitched a complete game for the win, allowing 3 hits, 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. Wellsboro scored 3 in the 1st, and one each in the 2nd and 3rd innings.
In the second game Weaver, Brooke Coolidge, Hailey Stevens, and Cabella Hazelton had hits. Weaver pitched a full game, allowing 16 hits and striking out 7.
Wellsboro's lone run came in the top of the 5th from Weaver.
Last week Wellsboro kicked off their season with a 6-0 loss to Canton in game one and a 14-6 win in game two.
In the first game Smith, Fleming, Lawton and Weaver all had one hit while Fleming pitched the full game, allowing 7 hits and 3 walks.
In game two, Smith led Wellsboro with 3 of their 5 hits in the game while Stevens and Ava Wood added the other two. Weaver, Harper Bourret, Coolidge and Taeber Rodriguez had two hits each. Smith pitched a full game with 14 strikeouts, 5 walks and 4 hits.
Wellsboro (2-2) hosts Wyalusing on Wednesday.
