Lady Hornets Fall To Towanda, 4-2

A day after picking up their first win of the season, the Wellsboro Varsity Softball team fell 4-2 to Townada in NTL Large School action on Tuesday.
Payton Perry got things started for the Lady Knights with a lead off walk. She later crossed home plate to give Towanda an early 1-0 lead, which they held until the top of the 3rd. Freshman Haylie Smith tied the score when she led off with a triple and scored as sophomore Adelyn Frantz drove her home.
A three-run 5th inning gave the Lady Knights the a 4-1 lead as Molly Roberts, Kaylen Sluyter, and Perry all scored.
Wellsboro cut the lead in half in the 6th as Frantz led off the inning with a walk then later scored on a wild pitch.
Smith and freshman Gena Fleming both went 2-for-3 with Fleming hitting a double to go along with Smith's triple.
Frantz went the distance on the mound, striking out 10 to go along with 6 walks and two hits.
Leila Cobb also threw a complete game, striking out 17 and walking 4.
The Lady Hornets fall to 1-3 (1-3 NTL Large School Division). The team returns to the field tomorrow against Wyalusing.
