Lady Mounties 10-Run Wellsboro

The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team suffered a 10-0 shutout against rival North Penn-Liberty to open their season Tuesday afternoon.

After a scoreless first inning that saw sophomore Adelyn Frantz strike out three of four batters, the Lady Mounties opened the flood gates in the 2nd inning for seven runs. Frantz struck out the side in the 3rd, but North Penn-Liberty added 3 more runs to end the game after the 5th inning.

The Lady Hornets produced just two hits on the plate offensively, one by Frantz and the other by junior Mazie Johnson. Johnson also stole a base.

Frantz allowed just two hits on the mound to go along with 11 strikeouts and 9 walks.

Elyna Booth and Haley Litzelman had the two hits for the Lady Mounties with Litzelman hitting a 3-run double.

Booth went the distance on the mound, allowing two hits with 11 strikeouts and two walks.

In the JV game North Penn-Liberty edged Wellsboro, 6-5. Junior Bri Stocum scored twice while freshmen Emaleigh Hamblin, Lakyn Close, and Phoebe Bowen all scored once. Freshman Gena Fleming had the Lady Hornets' lone hit in the game.

Wellsboro (0-1, 0-1 NTL Large School Division) is back in action at Athens on Thursday.
