Late Wyalusing Rally Lifts Lady Rams To 16-6 Win Over Lady Hornets

Wyalusing went on a late rally in the 6th inning to hand the Wellsboro Varsity Softball team a 16-6 loss on Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Hornets had a 6-4 lead heading into the bottom of the 6th when the Lady Rams' offense exploded for 12 runs.
Sophomore Rylee Coolidge put Wellsboro up early in the 1st after she ripped a double to right field, advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch, then later scored on another errant pitch. The Lady Hornets increased their lead to 4-0 in the 3rd as senior Harleigh Cleveland led off with a single, then later scored as freshman Haylie Smith hit a triple to left field. Smith would later score on a wild pitch, then Coolidge crossed home plate for the second time after drawing a walk.
Wyalusing scored twice in the bottom of the 4th to cut the lead in half, however the Lady Hornets posted another run in the 5th. Freshman Gena Fleming drew a lead off walk, and again scored on a wild pitch.
Wyalusing again scored twice in the bottom of the 5th, further cutting the lead down to 5-4.
Fleming drew another walk and scored in the 6th to put Wellsboro up 6-4 before Wyalusing opened the flood gates.
Wellsboro had 5 hits in the game, led by Smith's 2-for-4 performance at the plate. Coolidge and sophomore Adelyn Frantz were both 1-for-2 and Cleveland went 1-for-3.
Frantz went the distance on the mound, allowing 16 runs (9 earned) on 11 hits with 3 walks and 8 strikeouts.
Addison Fluck gave up 6 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits with 4 walks and 7 strikeouts in the win for the Lady Rams.
The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 6-9 overall and 4-8 NTL Large School Division. The team hosts Canton on Thursday.
